WHAT ARE ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS?
This is a process where the technician uses the a tool to determine the faults that are occurring within your engine. At Central Garage (Carcroft) we have the same diagnostic tools as the majority of the dealers with specialist technicians to use them. The diagnostic tool will produce a test plan. This will not remedy the fault, however, it will tell out technicians what the exact fault is.
HOW DO I KNOW I NEED AN ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC?
All car makes and models are now fitted with an engine management warning light. The symbol will vary depending on your own car, ensure you check your user manual for what your symbol looks like.
WHAT COULD THE FAULTS BE?
This is an impossible question to answer as your warning light could come on for anything as small as a misfire or something as large as an ECU failure. Therefore, it is imperative that you have a technician diagnose your engine as soon as possible.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
Cost varies depending on what make and model of car you own. When booking in with us, we will always give you an estimated cost of what the diagnostic will be. It is important to remember that this estimate does not include the price of rectifying the faults that are detected.
REPLACEMENT KEYS & PROGRAMMING
We all know that feeling when we can’t find our keys. Sometimes it’s because they have slipped into the sofa, but other times they are just lost. Similarly, key fobs become warn out.
At Central Garage (Carcroft) we provide replacement keys and programming to your vehicle.
WHAT DOES IS ENTAIL?
Each key has its own microchip inside. This, together with the blade, effectively creates a specific fingerprint to allow you entry to the vehicle. If one or both of these fail, entry will not be possible.
We contact reputable dealers to provide us with the fob and blade, cut to your vehicle’s need.
Once we have received this, we then programme the fobs chip to sync with your vehicle.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
Some dealers request to see copies of the owners driving licence, log book and a utility bill in the same address to confirm ownership. These need to be provided a minimum of 5 working days prior to your booking.
If you are having a new key programmed, you need to ensure that you provided us with all existing working keys as well. Programming of a new key will wipe any that have been recorded previously, therefore, our technicians will re-programme the existing keys at no extra charge.
Other Types Of Diagnostic Work
ABS (Antilocking Brake System) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program)
Virtually all cars on the road today have some form of Antilock Brake System (ABS). Most recent vehicles are equipped with some form of electronic stability program (ESP). The aim is to maximize braking power while preventing the wheels from locking, and aid maintaining control of the vehicle in an emergency maneuvering situation.
TRACTION CONTROL
Traction control deals specifically with loss of adhesion during acceleration.
When the traction control system senses that the wheels have begun to slip, this data is fed back to the control unit, which adjusts throttle input and applies braking force to slow the wheels. The wheels are thus prevented from spinning and the car maintains maximum traction.
Think of it as ABS in reverse.
SRS (Safety Restraint System)
Safety Restraint systems cover airbags and seat belt pretensioners.
Airbags, one of the most important recent inventions in vehicle safety, will inflate milliseconds after a serious crash begins.
The seat belt pretensioners will activate which will control the movement of the passengers and/or driver before the airbag is deployed.
Once deployed, the airbag will provide a safety cushion between a person and the hard interior of a car.
Most common are frontal airbags located in the steering wheel (driver’s side) and the dash panel on the left for the passenger. These airbags will inflate in the event of a head on crash and prevent injury.
On more recent systems there can be as many as twenty airbags fitted to a vehicle.
