What Are Auto Electrics?

Auto electrics are a major part of modern day vehicles, from electric windows to the car alternator. At Central Garage (Carcroft) we pride ourselves on having specialist technicians that can diagnose and repair or replace auto electrical components and parts.

There are many signs that your vehicle may be experiencing auto electric faults. Below are our top 4;

The engine won’t crank properly

Your engine requires electrical power to start. Your battery has to provide a spark to ignite the fuel in your engine. If your engine is not cranking properly, this could be a sign of a bad battery, alternator or another unrelated problem.

Headlights or other lights not working properly

Lights are an integral safety measure for your vehicle, from informing other road users of maneuvering and braking to enabling you as the driver to see where you are going. If the electrical system is malfunctioning, you may find your lights flickering or dimmer than usual. This could be down to low voltage due to a deteriorating battery, loose connections or an auxiliary drive belt issue.

Fuses keep blowing

It is a normal occurrence for a fuse to blow every now and again, usually this is just a case of replacing it. However, If fuses are blowing regularly, this could be a symptom of an underlying electrical fault.

Burning smell of plastic or insulation

If you ever smell burning, stop driving immediately. This is a sure sign of an electrical malfunction or a short circuit, especially if it is occurring alongside of the points covered above.
